County Helps Exporter Launch Jet Powered Turbine Energy Demonstration Project

1/17/2012
CAI Executive Vice President Kusum Kavia wanted a place to take international customers when they arrive here in Southern California to see a fully operational “ Spirit 1” power plant the company produces in its Riverside County based plant. Customers want to see our power plants in full operation and partnering with Riverside County gives us that opportunity. Spirit 1 can run on methane gas produced at landfills here and around the globe. Having a fully operational demonstration project at one of the county landfills is just what we needed to show our international buyers when they are considering us for contracts.

CAI is a recognized leader in the development of turbine powered electrical plans tans has sound a number of the units around the world. Supervisor John Tavaglione feels the partnership benefits both parties. The county gets more jobs for its workforce as more power plants are sold around the globe and CAI gets its demonstration plant.

After the Board of Supervisor gave its approval to the agreement  the Office of Foreign Trade and the County Waste Management Department, under the direction of Hans Kernkamp, began initial meetings and discussions about the demonstration project. No county funds will be used to finance the project and power produced by the demonstration plant will be available at reduced rates to the county. The county will also provide assistance on securing a power purchase agreement.

CAI is the recipient of the Presidents of the United States “E” Award and was named a winner of the County of Riverside Export Award in 2011. Reach Ms. Kavia via email at  kkavia@cai3.com
