SMS Supercars Unveils Its 2011 SMS 302 4V Mustang

4/16/2010
The rear of the 2011 SMS 302 Mustang includes a Formula One style rain light that brings an element of Steve Saleen’s racing heritage. But a new rear fascia that includes a rear fender cap and trunk lid spoiler adds some width to the fender panels that gives the SMS 302 a finished look that should be pleasing to many Ford fans that didn’t like the rear styling of the 2010 models.

SMS is offering the vehicles with two engine packages. One is a normally aspirated 5.0L SMS 302 4V engine that features a new four-valve cylinder head design, high-flow exhaust, performance pulleys and a premium fuel calibrated computer that combined produces 440 horsepower and 400 ft.-lbs. of toque.

Steve Saleen also made mention of an engine option that was not yet available but called it the SMS 351X. While he did say that this supercharged engine option would have significantly more power than the 302SC he didn’t want to give additional details about it at the time. Both of the Mustang’s engine packages are available with the factory 6-speed TR3650 manual, or 6-speed automatic transmission.

Vehicles equipped with the SMS 302 4V Mustang will accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds and manage a 13.5 quarter-mile time. With the supercharger option, the 0-60 mph time cuts down to 4.3 seconds, with a 12.1 second quarter-mile time at a speed of 119 mph.

All of the 2011 SMS 302 Mustangs will feature a color keyed center console and Ford’s Shaker 500 stereo system with SYNC and a 276 watt amplifier. The vehicles will also come with aluminum SMS door sill plates and embroidered floor mats. Some wild color offerings will also be available, including Burnout Black, Tire Smoke White, Sour Grape Green, Plum Insane, Pineapple Express Yellow and Maliblue to name a few. In addition, each SMS 302 Mustang will be hand signed by Steve Saleen and include a matching serialized SMS VIN on the engine bay plaque, dash plaque and front bumper for authentication. Prices for the 2011 SMS 302 Mustangs start at $54,990 and should be available in dealerships in May.
