At age 16, Chris Ma started handling importing/exporting with his father. His first job was setting up corrugated cardboard importing from the USA to Taiwan. With the money he earned from the importation business, he was able to pay for his own college education. With Chris’s planning and execution, he was able to complete a 4 year college in 2 years at the age of 19. After college, Chris joined a major LED manufacturer and quickly became the top performer. As such, he was promoted to be the national sales manager in 9 months.
Between 1999 and 2003, he helped grow the business from 1.5 million to 10 million. To continue this substantial growth, he realized the need for quicker lead times, overall better construction, and most of all, user-friendly software.
He explored all the leading competitors at the time to compare builds and software options available. Comparisons were done, but the company he was working for did not want to modify the product because new software would require hardware changes which would necessitate a complete rebuild of their displays.
“Chris Ma recognized that nothing was going to change, so he left the company and made the change happen by starting his own company.” said Paul Martin, Director of Marketing at Vantage LED.
Vantage LED, Inc., based in Corona, CA, was established in 2003 with the familiar “V” logo which has carried through to the new logo. Chris named the company Vantage, after a section in Sun Tzu's 'The Art of War’, the person with the best vantage point is always able to see more clearly and have a better edge. The company was comprised of 3 engineers and 1 sales person (Chris).
While everyone was driving prices lower and aiming for the general market, Vantage LED targeted the billboard and high-end markets. One of the first products developed, a first in the industry, was a completely sealed LED module (IP65 front and back). The logic board, power supply and connectors were completely encapsulated in a hermetically sealed self-contained module. The modules were standard sizes which allowed for various size configurations. This meant a LED display could be built and shipped within two weeks of order, compared to the standard 12 weeks in the industry.
Now, the future is amazingly bright. Vantage LED has a new production facility in beautiful Corona, CA with 60+ employees. After 9 years of innovative vision, streamlined manufacturing and efficient operation, Vantage LED has poised itself to become a long trusted manufacturing arm in the industry for serious dealers and OEM partners. Vantage LED has constantly looked to the future and aimed to be an innovator in the industry, the more clients see, the more they will love the places they're going.
