CORONA – The City of Corona, CA, received a Bronze Excellence in Economic Development Award for its 2016 project in the category of Business Retention and Expansion – Programs of 3 or More Years from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC).
The honor was presented at an awards ceremony on Tuesday, Sept. 27, during the IEDC Annual Conference, which was held Sept. 25-28, in Cleveland, OH.
“On behalf of the IEDC board of directors and Excellence in Economic Development Awards Advisory Committee, congratulations to City of Corona,” said Barry Matherly, CEcD, FM, IEDC 2016 Board Chair, President & CEO of the Greater Richmond Partnership. “Not only did they work to provide a necessary service to their community; but also, their participation in the awards program sheds light on their stellar projects which other communities can now use a benchmark.”
The City of Corona’s Economic Development vision is to create a balance between quality of life, employment creation, and taxable sales generation so that the City can continue to be a desirable place to live and conduct business. Corona has accomplished this by creating a unique economic development business expansion and retention program built around the needs and trends of businesses.
Corona’s business retention and expansion program has successfully leveraged existing resources and commodities that are currently in the City and continue to grow them while also seeking new opportunities. In order to accomplish this Corona has created four goals to keep the city headed in a clear and concise direction.
These four goals include; keeping Corona’s position as a leader in the inland Southern California for places to live and work; Keep existing businesses prosperous and selectively attract new ones; attract additional high paying jobs in clean manufacturing and technology sectors; and to continue growing Corona in a manner consistent with protecting the character of the community and quality of life. All of this equates to increased assessed valuation and taxable sales helping to better the life of the citizens.
“The City of Corona is honored to accept the prestigious Excellence in Economic Development Award,” said Ryan Cortez, Economic Development Coordinator for the City of Corona. “Our team is committed to making Corona the premier location to do business in Southern California.”
IEDC’s Excellence in Economic Development Awards recognizes the world’s best economic development programs and partnerships, marketing materials, and the year’s most influential leaders. These awards honor organizations and individuals for their efforts in creating positive change in urban, suburban, and rural communities.
“The awards process is a thorough, non-biased and multi-layered process. These are extraordinary accomplishments for all winners, and an overall great effort by all participants. We look forward to next year’s awards competition,” Matherly said.
